Is there a better alternative to the Bohr Model of the Atom?

Yes. The Spindle Vortex or GEMMA Model of the Atom, put forward in 2019, has a number of advantages over the Bohr Model..

In the currently-popular Bohr Model, atoms are made up of particles called protons and neutrons (nucleons) which lie at the centre (nucleus) of the atom, plus diffuse particles called electrons which orbit the nucleus or form a cloud around it..

Compared to an electron, protons and neutrons are much heavier, and have very similar masses, of 1 amu (atomic mass unit) each. The mass of an electron is less than a thousandth of 1 amu. A neutral atom (without net charge) contains a given number of positively-charged protons and the same number of negatively-charged electrons.

The number of protons in an atomic nucleus (its atomic number) determines what sort of element it is -- its chemical behaviour. For example, copper (Cu) has an atomic weight (amu) of 16, so its nucleus will contain 16 protons.

The Bohr Model of the atom

The Spindle Vortex or GEMMA model
The Spindle Vortex Model approaches an atomic structure in a totally different way. In GEMMA, atoms are rotating vortexes, and what distinguishes one from another is their rotational energy.

The Spindle Vortex with VRN slider

The figure above is the SVM picture of a Cu (copper) atom. Its speed of rotation is given by its VRN (Vortex Rotation Number) of 8, that implies it is rotating at 8 times of speed of a hydrogen atom.

Below the VRN is the atom's AW, equivalent to to its Atomic Weight on the Bohr Model, of 64. This value of 64 is the square of the VRN of 8, and reflects the fact that the rotational energy of an atom varies as the square of its rotation rate.

A fuller description of the new model of the atom is at BS802: GEMMA: The Spindle Vortex Model for Gravity, Energy, Matter, Magnetism, Antimatter.

Where the GEMMA model is superior to Bohr
Both models of the atom have their virtues, and both may be used when appropriate, just as both the Wave and the Particle model of light may be used, even though they are mutually exclusive.

Where GEMMA is better stems from the fact that the model is vector-oriented -- the GEMMA atom has a definite axis, unlike Bohr. This gives an intuitive feel for the fact that photons are emitted from atoms in definite directions.

Treatment of the atom as a vortex gives an intuitive explanation for many natural phenomena, including gravity, magnetism, antimatter, and innate energy. None of these is explained by Bohr.

Mathematical treatments of vortexes are available as part of fluid dynamics, enabling calculations concerning the atom not applicable with Bohr.
