Arrays of vacuum balloons reaching up into the upper atmosphere could be used to support cables along which space vehicles and freight cars could be launched.
INDICATIONS
Skyway balloons should be feasible up to a height of about 40 km, where the residual atmosphere is very thin.
Skycars could be accelerated along the connecting cables with linear electric motors or with maglev.
Power for skycar acceleration could come from solar collectors anywhere along the cable lines, making launch costs minimal.
Acceleration could be as gradual as desired, enabling the launching of delicate loads or people with health concerns.
With incremental or continuous acceleration, escape velocities should be easily achievable by the time maximum balloon height was reached.
Continuous lauch control of manned or unmanned cars would be possible from the ground up.
Development of devices and control software is possible here, with new approaches open to patenting or trade-secreting.
